A new home in the historic heart of Rivoli

Historic house in the heart of Rivoli

In the historic centre of Rivoli, near Turin, we faced a particular challenge: to demolish and reconstruct a two-storey residential building from the early twentieth century, originally a farmhouse, while preserving its external architectural identity and transforming it into a modern, efficient home rated energy class A4.

Traditional on the outside, advanced construction technology on the inside

The project was designed in full compliance with landscape restrictions and the original aesthetic features of the building. Facades, proportions and architectural style echo the pre-existing historic structure; behind the traditional exterior, however, lies a new timber-framed construction built to contemporary standards of comfort, energy efficiency and living quality.

Rebuilding a structure while preserving its original appearance means combining respect for context with innovation. In this project, the real difference comes from the quality of the construction system and the materials used. The timber frame and natural insulation materials help improve the performance of the building envelope, reducing the energy needed to heat the rooms in winter and keep them cooler in summer.

Special attention was paid to elements that are fundamental for everyday well-being:

  • Thermal insulation, to limit energy losses
  • Thermal lag, important for protecting living spaces from summer heat
  • Acoustic insulation, for greater peace and quiet inside the home
  • Natural and eco-sustainable materials, chosen to ensure high performance and construction quality in line with green building principles

The result is a home with a historic appearance, but designed to deliver modern standards of energy performance and living comfort.

Fully bespoke interiors

The internal layout was designed around the client's needs, with no constraints imposed by the previous structure. Spaces, finishes and living solutions were all tailored to create a functional home that reflects the lifestyle of its residents.

For us, building to measure means exactly this: respecting the identity of the place while creating a home that reflects the tastes, needs and expectations of the client.

A home designed to cut energy consumption

This is the most significant aspect of the project: its high energy efficiency. The home is equipped with a photovoltaic system and battery storage, allowing renewable energy to be produced and used directly on site, significantly reducing reliance on the electricity grid.

Combined with a high-performance building envelope, these systems can enable a substantial reduction in energy consumption compared to a traditional unrenovated building, with concrete benefits both in economic and environmental terms.

The comfort of a timber home

Energy efficiency is not the only value of a green-built home. What makes a difference every day is also the quality of the indoor environment: more stable temperatures, greater comfort in every season, attention to healthy living spaces and the use of natural materials.

A properly designed and built timber home offers a different way of living: more comfortable, more efficient and more attentive to the well-being of the people who live there.

In Rivoli, an old farmhouse from the early twentieth century has kept its historic face, while becoming a new class A4 home: a house capable of combining memory, technology and construction quality.
